SLACKER!! The Best Phone Program yet

Today seems to be review day, so I am reviewing some of my favorite programs for my phone. The best one I have found so far is Slacker (can be used on most smart phones).

Slacker is pretty much a beefed up radio station player. They claim to have over a million songs with over 100 stations. There are no commercials that I have heard yet and best of all it is free (there are some pay features if you are really into it).

So what can this program do...

1. Well one of the coolest features is it will cache stations to your memory card. This does one of two things, reduces the battery use and lets you listen to music regardless of location (such as an airplane).

2. You can customize a station. With the search feature you can search specific artists, add them to your list and the station you create will play those artists, and similar music.

3. One of my favorite features is it shows you the artist and song that will be playing next. You have the ability to skip the song you are listening to and go to the next (they only give you 5 skips with the free version, you can pay for unlimited). I have found that there is really no reason to skip, I use the premade stations and they are great. I do occasionally switch stations if I am not feeling the next artist though.

4. You can ban artists. That's right. Ban them. Lets say you are listening and all of a sudden a song from Yanni comes on. You just hit a button and Bammmm!!! It will never play Yanni again.

5. You can read information about the artist, album and song as it is playing. Last night I learned that Paul McCartney did some composing of classical music and what inspired him to do it.

6. You can listen to the songs on your computer also with all of the same features. So if your computer is hooked up to your stereo, or you do a lot of computing this lets you do it form your computer.

7. Lets you know which artist will be playing when you click on that station, if you don't like it, go to a different station.

8. Pay version gives you unlimited skips, no banner ads, and create play lists of all your favorite songs.

I use this program when I work out, or walk home from the office. The quality is amazing. This is probably the best program on my phone, and probably will be for a long time.

Google Latitude, Very Interesting

Last night I got an email sent to my phone from a buddy I went to Dental School with. It said something like, "Do you want to see where I am, download Google latitude." Because he used to be an IT guy I figured it was safe. I downloaded the program. It put Google maps on my phone and then asked me if I want to see my friend and have him see me. Awesome.

I went ahead and selected to let him see me (this can be turned off at anytime). The next thing I know I see his profile picture on a map of New York. He was at home.

If he were at a restaurant it would have shown the name of the restaurant and given me the number of the restaurant. I can think of many ways I could use this to play little jokes on my friends. Heehee.

The technology available to us is quite incredible. This is a cool way to stay in touch with your friends. It also shows you status updates and links to Google talk (really the only IM I use regularly). But....

Here is my issue with this. If all I have to do to let my friends track my location is download a program that takes 30 seconds, it is probably possible that people can see where I am regardless of having a program.

I know my phone has a 911 GPS tracking so they can send a signal to my phone to activate it then they can find me if there is an emergency.

My bet is George Bush had been tracking me for years. He was always jealous of my whit, and good looks ;)

Bottom Line. I let the people I love and trust see where I am if they want. It's a fun little toy.

Blip.fm

OH MY GOD!!

Blip.fm is crazy. My Buddy Cory introduced it to me, next thing you know I am on it for hours, racking my brains to post good songs (at least ones I think are good).

If you have not been to this site, you really must try it out. Not only do I put the songs I like but I get introduced to music I have never heard of from people with similar tastes. Been kinda an eye opener for me. There is more to music than the 80's. Go figure.

So what can you do with Blip.fm? Here is how I use it.

You are in essence creating one freaking huge play list. You have access to about every song ever made so there are no limits.

I have added about 150 songs (basically you do a search and it comes up). The cool thing is you don't have to add songs (blip) to get them on your play list. You can create a play list from thousands of people if you wanted.

Last night I got home and hooked my computer into my stereo system. I went to my friends heathers Blips (who has very good taste in music). I clicked the first song and that was it. I had hours of good music to listen to.

This site is a blast. Give it a try. Add my DJ "HEAT"

Happy Blipping.
